My Butterfly Project | Day 5

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

Do you see that, our caterpillars have about tripled in size in just five days - WOW! Have you noticed all the silk the caterpillars are spinning? It's all that stuff that looks like a web on their food cups and looks like scratches on the walls of their houses!

DID YOU KNOW?

Caterpillars spin silk to help support themselves and for protection. Caterpillars that will become butterflies do not spin silk to form their chrysalis, they actually molt (or shed) their skin to reveal their changed body - now a chrysalis. Some caterpillars that will become moths, however, DO form their cocoon by spinning silk!
