My Butterfly Project | Day 11

We had to do a little rescue mission when we found one of our chrysalides had fallen! We had one little escapee who wanted to check things out, which was a fun opportunity to get some close up video and photos! You'll also observe one of the caterpillars working on his silk pad (first video), which we thought was pretty cool!!

DID YOU KNOW?

The body part that holds the chrysalis in place is called a cremaster. After the silk pad is made, the caterpillar twist around to embed the cremaster in the silk. The cremaster keeps the chrysalis hanging the remainder of the time as the changes occur for it to become a butterfly.
